DR. DESIREE COX – THE SCIENTIFIC ARTIST

Creativity is the lifeblood of my work, my art, and my life. I have been described as a mixed media artist and a “Renaissance Woman.” I am also a Rhodes Scholar, a medical doctor, a thought leader in Regenerative Health, a jazz singer, a writer, and a fine artist. These identities capture some aspects of what it means to be The Scientific Artist. My philosophy: We live in a connected universe. Each of us is a mechanism of the universe expressing itself. The feedback of each of our lives has the potential for evolutionary potential and exponential impact. Every day, I ask myself: What’s my message for the universe today? What’s Her message for me?

I’m so grateful to be able to express my creativity and speak my truth through the symbolism of words and stories, as well as sound and color. As I’m most drawn to painting, my preferred medium is oil on canvas and the ‘color chords,’ or color combinations drawn from indigenous public art forms such as Junkanoo (developed in The Bahamas, the country of my birth).

I am a self-taught artist, mentored in my early years by the leading sculptor and painter Stanley Burnside. I have lived and studied in The Bahamas, Canada, the US, The UK, and Europe. My inspiration is fueled by the wisdom and genius of luminaries from many centuries, cultures, and disciplines. My journey of creative mastery and creative mystery is directed by 9 Guiding Principles:

  1. Be Bold
  2. Be Flexible and Open
  3. Be Curious
  4. Be Kind
  5. Be Intentional
  6. Be Grateful
  7. Be Real
  8. Be Tenacious
  9. Be Courageous
